What do you mean by "be as true to the genre as possible"? Writing futa fiction requires a girl with dick character and that's about it. Beyond that there is nothing to be true to.

Interesting that you would say that. I was recently reading a rather involved exchange about the genre - there are so many flavors. Apparently, a female character with a dick is vital, but is the dick an extension of her clitoris? Does she have testicles? How did the transformation affect her and where? How much sperm, cum, etc. can she ejaculate? Did the transformation affect her lactation? There seem to be a cornucopia of flavors, and I suppose you are correct, at the heart of it is a female character with male parts - but I am still learning and there is a great deal to explore.
