MISFIT'S STORY DUMP 2

Don't know why I got two threads for the first dump. But whatever, here's another one.

THE QUARRY

Jenna and her little sister Lisa lived in a farming community. Industry had dried up long ago. Timber was gone, the coal mine abandoned and the limestone pit worked out. Now all that was left was a huge hole in the ground that had filled with cool, refreshing water.

Being fourteen, Jenna was very interested in boys. And during the summer, all the girls hung out at the quarry to swim, play about with and even, if lucky, kiss the boys that swarmed about the area like hungry mosquitoes. Lisa, being two years younger wasn’t at that point yet.

So when one day Jenna announced that she was going to the quarry, Lisa spoke up too. “Can I go too?”

“No. I have to ride my bike there.”

Just then their mother entered the kitchen.

“Mom? Can I go to the quarry?” asked Lisa. Jenna gave her sister a look.

“Well, then she’ll have to watch you. Okay Jenna?”

“But Mom,,” she protested.

“If you won’t watch her, then neither of you can go.”

Jenna shot a death glance at little smirking Lisa. “Okay, I’ll watch her. Let’s go.”

With a smile of triumph, Lisa ran upstairs and put on her suit, grabbing some shorts and t shirt plus a large towel.
