Advent Psychosis: There and Back Again

Prelude:

Ryan’s saw the green light flashing on his phone and reached for it. “Ball, 6:30, M Courts :)” the message read. “Jesus…” he thought to himself. “She really can’t get enough.”

It was still 5:38, considering the basketball courts were within five minutes of his house he had plenty of time to get there, but he liked to get there early and warm up before whoever he would be playing with, in this case Hailee.

He opened the door to his bedroom and took a few graceful steps towards the bathroom. He closed the door and locked it behind him before he took a look into the mirror.

Ryan saw the reflection of the young man he’s grown to become. Although only twenty, he was far more intelligent and accomplished than most adults his age. Already entering his first year of med school, he was on course to become double certified in both neurology and psychology. His schooling has kept him for the most part from socializing, but with the workload he carried he still had a good group of friends from the classes he’s taken.

He turned his head to the side to make sure his hair wasn’t too crazy. He often rocked the “fresh out of bed” look with a few messy spikes at the end of his hairline. When everything checked out alright, he grabbed the tiny orange bottle and popped a pill out of it, then made his way downstairs.

“Oh shush…” he made his way downstairs and grabbed his shoes at the base of the stairs. He froze in place, shoes in his hands as he looked back and forth. Does he sit on the couch or chair? “… their just shoes.” He made a confused face and pointed at the chair almost drunkenly before choosing the couch. “Confused you, huh?” He took a seat and tied his shoes. Right before leaving he turned his head and spoke, “If you’re here when I come back… well, that’ll be just weird.”

He closed the door behind himself. The voices stayed behind.

Part One: Stasis

Hailee drove up the empty street and peered out her window at the courts. She could only see one person shooting around. She took a sharp left turn and parked in the spot next to the only other car in the lot. She looked in the mirror, double checking her scarce use of make-up, made sure her hair was tied back in a pony-tail, and finally unplugged her iPod. She grabbed her ball and water bottle before taking a step out of the car.

Ryan knew it was her. Her black civic was far too easy to recognize when it was covered in all those pink flowers. Fitting and cute, parking underneath that tree makes her car unique. She wa
