THE VIRTUAL GIRL

The year is 2168.

The most popular form of entertainment in the world is known as “sim-sense”. More archaically it was known as Brain Dance. Every conceivable activity can be experienced through sim-sense, including sex, and it can be every bit as real in sim-space as in the real world. Sim-sense has infinite applications as a tool for entertainment and is also quite instrumental in education as well. It allows even average individuals to learn any skill or earn a doctorate without ever having to go to a college, and benefits the handicapped by giving them the freedom they have always dreamed of while helping them through physical therapy should they be capable of it.

The most advanced system ever made in the world for experiencing real time events in a computer controlled environment, complete with full sensation and with multiple POV’s, came to be from A.S.I.S.T. technology. A.S.I.S.T. was what allowed for the creation and practical use of cybernetic limbs and organs in the human body, allowing

man and machine to interface in a nearly seamless harmony.

Man has come to the point of creating not only clones but also self-aware human gene and cyber enhanced hybrid beings. These constructs are known by a variety of names “replicants”, “auton”, “agnates”, and “boomer” to but name a few. Even retro-gene tailoring is possible, as nano-gene re-culmination and engram reprogramming have been elevated from the pages of fiction to the pinnacle of high science. These advancements have forced the population of the world to the edge of a new dawn. The boundaries of this new world are pushed to the edge of within, and the extremes of the world without. The only question is will humanity be ready for a new age…the age of THE VIRTUAL GIRL.

The night sky was clear about the area surrounding the lake in the prestigious Bellevue neighborhood. Only the wealthy and elite lived here. The mansion homes were separated by vast tracts of green, well manicured grass, and stands of dense trees lined up like body guards to block out the view of both the neighboring properties and the world at large. It allowed an amount of latitude to the occupants of those homes when it came to their choice of evening apparel or their choice to not wear it at all. One such occupant was standing in the full-length corlex-glass window of her patio, completely nude and gazing out across the placid lake just beyond the rise of the green lawn that bordered the body of water from her property.

As she stood there she seemed devoid of expression, and perfectly still, like some type of automaton before it
