LINTY GOES TO SUMMER CAMP 2

‘Swimming,’ the young teen thought as she spooned scrambled eggs into her yawning mouth. ‘I hate swimming.’

“So, how did you sleep?” Carey asked thoughtfully.

“Um, not too good,” Linty admitted.

“I heard you go out.”

“Oh. Oh well, I just needed to walk around. Ya know, to get tired.”

“Ah. Didn’t work though, huh?”

“Not really,” Linty said, shoving more food into her mouth.

“I heard the counselors had a party. You didn’t go did you?”

Linty swallowed and tensed. “What’s with all the questions all of a sudden?”

Carey giggled and leaned in to whisper. “If you decide to go sometime, will you let me go with you?”

Linty smiled and nodded.

“Oh, I also heard Skye leave the cabin after you.”

Linty shrugged, thinking she might have been one of the pot smokers and finished her plate. Suddenly one of the counselors stood up. “The last two nights are for the losers,” Skye spat. “What’s wrong with her?’ pointing at Linty with her head down on the table.

“Tired. Didn’t sleep very well.”

“Well, if she didn’t stay out all night she’d get some sleep,” Skye revealed.

“You saw her too? I mean, before you went out?” Carey asked.

“Oh, um, yeah. I didn’t want her to get lost.” Bobbie nodded. “But I didn’t find her,” the girl added forcefully.

Soon the group was heading down to the lake again. Skye wore a scowl on her face as her brain ran a mile a minute.

‘I told you to be careful.’ ‘Shut up, I thought I was.’ ‘You were careless human.’ ‘Fuck off Zedha or I’ll . . .’ ‘You’ll what human? A shiver ran down Skye’s spine. ‘J-just leave me alone right now.’ ‘Certainly my host,’ Zedha soothed, a little too nicely.

The same old thing was going on. There would be four heats, swimming i
